Rio Tinto Choose ImPact VoIP, PED, BlastPED & ICCL

Diavik Diamond Mine, Rio Tinto’s new project in Canada has just ordered its core communication infrastructure from MST.

Apart from the support shown for our systems, we are particularly pleased that the Diavik engineers have chosen a number of our newer technologies, as well as our well established technologies. The combination of communication infrastructure has been developed to provide a complete communication base to support the Diavik operations well into the future.

Two of our latest technologies to be installed are:

  • ImPact WLAN for surface and Underground. The 802.11 based ImPact technology will allow high data applications in range of areas, including:

    • 20 x VoIP telephones for personnel communication.
    • 12 x Wireless PLC modules for advanced telemetry control.
    • 4 x ImPact WAP’s (see picture at right) to provide full communication as the mine develops.
  • Integrated Communication Cap Lamp (ICCL). 60 of our latest ICCL’s will be supplied with PED and Tag functionality. The ICCL's use the latest Lithium Ion battery technology to deliver a cap lamp with PED at one third the weight and size of the more traditional lead-acid battery based versions (see picture right).
