ImPact Digital Mine Communications Operating in 9 mines in Canada, Australia, USA and Mongolia

Our ImPact WLAN System for underground mining applications has now been installed in nine mines since its commercial release earlier this year.

With installations at mines in Canada (3), Australia (3)the United Sates (2) and Mongolia (1) the ImPact System is being used as the key link in the monitoring and management systems of the respective mines. Applications include:

  • Vehicle diagnostic and payload data links on CAT trucks and CAT Elphinstone loaders
  • Vehicle diagnostics on ABB trucks
  • Communication and remote programming of Mine Control PLC’s
  • VoIP telephone system for underground and surface
  • VoIP shaft communications
  • Providing dual IP network at the mine
  • Wireless data link from gas monitoring devices installed underground

Confirmation of the benefit is that six of the eight installations have already extended the wireless network underground by installing additional ImPact WAP’s (see picture below) and expanding the number of vehicles with ImPact VIP diagnostics interfaces.

We are grateful for mines, like Diavik, that have been early adopters of the technology. We are particularly pleased that the development efforts have resulted in a technology giving such immediate and tangible payback to a mine’s investment in its installation.
