Mine Site Technologies is a solutions provider, specializing in the development and supply of technology, and services, to the mining industry. Our particular areas of expertise include underground communications, remote blasting systems, mine tagging & WiFi tracking systems and cap lamps; as well as high data wireless mesh systems for open pit and surface communications.

Remote Centralized Blasting

The BlastPED is a remote ‘radio’ based blast initiation system used in over 100 mines around the world.  BlastPED was developed to provide a safe, remote blast initiation system for mines by eliminating the high cost of installing and maintaining large firing cable networks, and hence reduce the safety concerns (e.g. induction) with these cable based systems.

Underground Mines

BlastPED PED Version, this system uses the PED Transmission System to communicate with remotely installed receiver/exploders to remotely initiate electric detonators (blasting caps). The system is one way, i.e. remote unit is a receiver only, as the close proximity of this receiver/exploder to electric detonators precludes the use of a transmitting radio for safety reasons. BlastPED LF Version use’s a mine’s leaky feeder radio system to communicate with remotely installed receiver/exploders to remotely initiate electric detonators (blasting caps). Again, the system is one way, i.e. remote unit is a receiver only, as the close proximity of this receiver/exploder to electric detonators precludes the use of a transmitting radio for safety reasons. Open Cut Surface Mines and Quarries

The BlastPED ST version was developed for use in surface applications and uses more typical surface radio systems to communicate between a Master Control Unit and a Remote Receiver/Exploder. A key difference to the other two types of BlastPED is this version initiates signal tube (shock tube) directly, rather than initiating an electric detonator. The elimination of electric detonators enables this unit to be two way (i.e. the remote unit can provide feed back on its status), since a transmitter can be used within close proximity to the signal tube.
